Sports Illustrated writer Don Yaeger has named Mike McKenzie, a personal assistant to former Alabama head football coach Dennis Franchione, as a source for a story that prompted a $20 million lawsuit by former coach Mike Price.

A sworn statement said part of the information in Yaeger's May 12 story about Price came from McKenzie, according to a report Wednesday in The Birmingham News.

Yaeger's sworn statement said McKenzie contributed information to a portion of the article that said Price had twice been chastised by Alabama athletics director Mal Moore for buying drinks for students and "generally serving as the life of the party in too many bars."

The News reported McKenzie said he responded to a query from Yaeger pertaining to background information on the coaching situation at Alabama.

Price's lawsuit came after the May 12 issue of SI, which contained a story titled "Bad Behavior: How He Met His Destiny at a Strip Club." The lawsuit claims the story has seven major inaccuracies.

When Franchione was at Alabama, McKenzie ran the head coach's site, www.coachfran.com.
The Web site now exists at Texas A&M.
